Your nail polish selection is more than just choosing a color. Different colors are good for different things. Choosing a deep toned color can be good for long and slender nails. Nail length is very important. Keeping your nails long may not always be a good decision if you play an instrument, or find that you are often doing a lot of house work. Short nails look great too, so if you find that you use your nails a lot, go for a shorter nail length to prevent breakage.

It is often times better to file your nails rather than cutting them. Cutting your nails can cause them to weaken and split. When filing your nails, remember to always file in one direction, not back and forth as this may also cause splitting. When shaping your nails, it is better to keep a rounded shape. Squared off nails may look very nice, but your are more likely to have your nails get snagged and tear with this kind of nail style.

Keeping your hands in good condition is just as important as caring for your nails. If your hands look terrible and dry, there isn't much point in beautiful nails is there? You can keep your hands in great condition by making sure to moisturize them frequently. Almond oil is a great thing to use for this.

If you find that there is any kind of discoloration on your hands, then lemon juice may do the trick in getting rid of unsightly stains. After washing your hands, add a little bit of lemon juice, or hydrogen peroxide to the discolored area.
